What does "Connection Requested" mean on Facebook?

On Facebook, I sent a friend request to someone, and for awhile if you viewed their profile it said "Friend Requested". Now, if I look in the search bar, their shortcut pops up, but then as you view the profile, it says "Connection Requested" and you still can't view the whole profile. What is this, does anyone know? I looked on Google and I can't find anything so if you know a lot about FB or something please answer my question. Thanks for taking your time to answer!

It's something new that facebook has just added. Instead of having "Awaiting Friend Confirmation" they changed it to "Connection Requested". It's basically the same thing as before just written differently.

I'm pretty sure that it means they rejected you. I just got the same message as well. I actually find it more insulting that they try to cover up the rejection rather then just let it be.
