Your Facebook account was accessed using Contacts Importer. It wasn't me. Am I being hacked? The link given in the email from facebook is broken. What should I do.

What happened was, someone on your facebook friends list, wanted to import email addresses directly into their email account, from facebook. This can be done by signing into an email account, like hotmail or gmail. going to "add new contacts", "see sugestions", "add from social networks" then clicking the facebook link. It will "access" everyone on your friends list, and import all their email addresses from your friends list, to your email contacts list.



To shut this off in facebook... go to "account", "privacy settings", then on the bottom left, under "applications and websites", click "edit your settings". next to "applications you use" you'll see "Contacts Importer". Delete or Remove it!!!



Hope this answers a few questions. It's just another way for websites to "give and gain" more information about us!

Sorry, but waiting is the only thing you can do, once you're sure you have contacted facebook . Actually, it CAN be permanently deleted. There are ways of doing that. It's a tough call in your situation though, whether it's "gone" or not. There is nothing I, or anyone here on yahoo answers, can do to help you, nor is it in your power anymore to be able to do anything about it until facebook replies. Once they reply you will be able to take further action if possible. Also, DO NOT send them a lot of email messages. Maybe 2 at the most. Sending them more than that may put you on a lower priority list as they may consider it spam / impolite. In the future I would also suggest you to not store all your important info on a social networking website (or any website) such as facebook. Best of luck. Edit: I just re-read your post, and saw that you said "I've emailed for the last 3 days". I really hope that doesn't mean you have been sending them lots of emails for the past 3 days (by lots I mean 3-5+). If you have then you may have just put yourself on the lower priority list. When emailling them use the email address that was once associated with your old account.

I'm wondering the same thing. I recently signed up for the notifications any time my account was accessed from a new location, so I figured it was related to that.

The only other thing I could figure was that Facebook was running its regular snooping of my email account's address book and didn't foresee that a notification email would be sent for it. If not that, I'm clueless. The link is broken in my email, as well. I don't see how this could be aiding someone in hacking into my account, but I'm very sorry yours was. I hate reading that that happened, but thank you for sharing. I guess I'll just wait and hope it doesn't happen to mine.



I'd appreciate an explanation if anyone out there ever figures out why this was sent.

I got the same email with a different time, but I hadn't been on the computer all day. I didn't want to click on the link, also fearing a virus or other malicious intent. I copied the opening phrase, googled it and hit on this page where you describe it also happened to you. So far i see no sign my FB account has been hacked, but I will not click on that link, just to be safe. I figure why would FB allow my account info to be accessed without my permission, and THEN ask me if it was me who accessed it? Doesn't make sense. They could just as easily had the accessor verified prior to giving them access. Just seems like another ploy to get you to click a malicious link, IMHO.

I did what Mark T. suggested. Somebody added Contacts Importer to my account last night. I promptly got the same notification like you all did early this morning. I removed Contacts Importer. Hopefully this is the end of it. Somebody hacked my gmail account couple of days ago. It was sent to a couple of fellow colleagues. Not funny!

I just received the same e-mail; I didn't click on the link as I'm afraid it will import a virus. I will contact Facebook immediately to ask them if they know what's going on. I'm pretty sure that this is not good!

I received the identical e-mail this morning. The link to fix it also didn't work. I have no idea what it means either. Anyone know? I haven't been on facebook this week.
