It used to be that you had to have a school email address to even register but now they have networks for your city so you don't need a school email anymore. so the answer to your question is no.

It used to be only for college students, then they added high schools, and now it's open to anyone. You just specify your geographic location. There are filters in place that allow users to restrict who can see their profiles, so students can choose not to allow non-students to see their profile, for example.

you don't absoultely HAVE to be in high school or college/university to have facebook, it's not a rule or anything... but you are put in a "network" when you join...which is how it is organized. and the network you are in, is your school or college... you can contact people you know easily that way. if you live in LA for example, and don't go to school, you can join the "LA" network...and you can search for the people you know to look for them and add them to your friends list. hope i helped..=)

Facebook used to be limited to people with .edu email addresses. Now it is open to everyone, including nosy employers and campus police departments.
